Ontario Day Trips to Take with Your Family this Summer

Summer can be a difficult time for parents with their kids running around the house and a lack of available activities due to the pandemic. Here are some awesome day trips in Ontario you can take with your family this Summer!

1) Greenview Aviaries Park & Zoo

Located 30 minutes outside of Chatham, Greenview Aviaries Park & Zoo is the perfect little day trip to take with your family. The park features domestic and exotic animals, including tigers, lions, jaguars, cougars, zebras, donkeys, wolves, and many more, along with their plethora of tropical birds! After you check out the animals, you can take your kids over to the playground and picnic area to have lunch. The park had been closed due to Covid, but as of June 11th, they are open and ready to host visitors, making Greenview a priority trip for your family this Summer.

2) Pinery Provincial Park

Pinery Provincial Park is a beautiful park located on Lake Huron, just southwest of Grand Bend. With 10 km of sandy beaches, extremely rare ecosystems, and over 300 bird species, your family is sure to thank you for taking them here. There are plenty of rental options for canoes, hydro bikes, paddleboats, and kayaks, along with ten gorgeous walking trails and a 14 km bike trail. If that wasn’t enough to convince you to visit, sunsets at Pinery Provincial Park have been ranked by National Geographic as among the “Top 10 Best in the World”!

3) Hilton Falls Conservation Area

If you’re looking for another fantastic nature adventure, then this one is for you. Just outside of Milton is the Hilton Falls Conservation Area, where you can see some of Ontario’s most spectacular water features! Explore the trails, and you will run into waterfalls, rivers, a reservoir, and even a piece of history when you come across the Mill Ruins. Whether your family is into mountain biking, hiking, or you want to go for a relaxing walk, Hilton Falls will deliver.

4) Museum of Naval History

If the weather outside is less than ideal, you can take your family an hour south of London to the Museum of Naval History! Here, you and your kids can see the Cold War era, HMCS OJIBWA. You can explore the vessel and hear how a 90-meter-long Oberon Class Submarine ended up in a museum 1,200 nautical miles from the sea.

Getting out of the house and taking a day trip somewhere nearby is a great way to change things up, and create some fun, lasting memories for you and your family. Luckily Ontario has plenty of options!
